The Next Nobel Prize is Waiting to be Discovered. Will Your Lab Win It?

The Next Nobel Prize is Waiting to be Discovered. Will Your Lab Win It?

Introducing the 2026 Google.org Impact Challenge: AI for Science — a $30 Million global call to reimagine the future of discovery.

The 21st century's greatest breakthroughs won't just be found in a petri dish or a particle accelerator. They will be forged in the intersection of human curiosity and artificial intelligence. We are standing on the precipice of a new era—an era of science at digital speed—where the world's most complex puzzles, from curing diseases to saving our planet, can finally be solved.

This is your invitation to lead that charge.

Building on the momentum of our inaugural AI for Science fund, Google.org is launching a supercharged, $30 million global open call to empower the visionaries who refuse to accept the limits of today. We are searching for the Nobel-worthy ideas, the bold hypotheses, and the dedicated researchers who are ready to harness the transformative power of generative AI and agentic technologies to accelerate the timeline of human progress.

If you have a moonshot idea that can change the world, we provide the rocket fuel.

This is Not Just a Grant. It’s a Partnership for Breakthroughs.

We understand that world-changing science requires more than just capital. It requires a village of support, cutting-edge tools, and the technical horsepower to turn complex algorithms into tangible results. That’s why the 2026 Google.org Impact Challenge: AI for Science is designed as a holistic launchpad for your most ambitious project.

Selected organizations will receive more than just funding. They will gain access to a powerful ecosystem designed to amplify their impact:

Catalytic Funding: Selected projects will receive between $500,000 and over $3 million USD in non-equity funding from Google.org. This is flexible, catalytic capital intended to power your research, expand your team, and scale your solution.

The Google.org Accelerator: Beyond the check, you and your team will be invited to participate in a multi-month, high-touch accelerator program. This isn't a lecture series; it’s a deep collaboration. You will receive dedicated pro bono technical support from Google's world-class engineers and AI experts, who will work alongside you to tackle technical hurdles, architect solutions, and integrate the latest advancements in AI.

Google Cloud Credits: Access the most powerful computing infrastructure on the planet. Recipients will receive Google Cloud credits to support intensive data processing, model training, and deployment, ensuring you have the computational resources to match your ambition.

Where Will You Make Your Mark?

The possibilities at the frontier of AI and science are limitless, but for this Challenge, we are focusing our support on two critical pillars where AI can have an immediate and profound impact:

Pillar 1: AI for Health & Life Sciences — Decoding the Blueprint of Life

For centuries, we’ve sought to understand the intricate machinery of the human body. Now, AI is giving us the ability to read the schematics in real-time. We are looking for projects that use AI to:

Rewrite the Future of Genomics: Move beyond simply reading DNA to understanding its complex interactions, predicting disease risk with unprecedented accuracy, and developing personalized treatments tailored to an individual's genetic makeup.

Complete the Brain Map: Support ambitious projects in neuroscience aimed at mapping neural connections, understanding consciousness, and developing breakthrough treatments for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other neurological disorders.

Accelerate Drug Discovery: Slash the decade-long timeline from lab to patient by using generative AI to design novel molecules, predict their efficacy, and identify hidden candidates for repurposing.

Democratize Diagnostics: Build AI-powered tools that can bring expert-level medical diagnosis to underserved communities, identifying diseases from medical imaging or patient data faster and more accurately than ever before.

Pillar 2: AI for Climate Resilience & Environmental Science — Building a Sustainable Future

Our planet’s living systems are a complex web of interactions that we are only beginning to model. AI offers a lens to see the big picture and a scalpel to make precise, positive interventions. We are seeking projects that use AI to:

Fortify Our Food Systems: Develop predictive models to help agriculture adapt to climate change, optimize water usage, reduce waste, and create resilient crops that can feed a growing population.

Protect Biodiversity: Use AI-powered bioacoustics, camera traps, and satellite imagery to monitor endangered species, track deforestation, combat poaching in real-time, and model the health of entire ecosystems—from rainforests to coral reefs.

Unlock the Ocean's Secrets: Dive deep into the "blue economy" by using AI to monitor ocean health, track plastic pollution, manage sustainable fisheries, and understand the vital role our oceans play in regulating the global climate.

Build a Resilient Planet: Create sophisticated climate models that can predict extreme weather events with greater accuracy, optimize renewable energy grids, and discover new materials for carbon capture and sustainable manufacturing.

Who Should Apply?

This is a global search for brilliance. We encourage applications from a diverse range of organizations that share our commitment to using AI for social impact:

  • Nonprofit organizations and charities
  • Academic and research institutions (public or private)
  • Social enterprises and for-profit companies with a clear and explicit social impact mission

Eligibility in a Nutshell:

Your project must have a defined scientific question and a clear path to social impact. Your organization must be legally registered and based in an eligible country. Individual researchers without an organizational affiliation are not eligible for this particular challenge. Collaborations and partnerships are strongly encouraged!

How to Seize This Opportunity

The window to apply is open, but it won't be for long.

Prepare Your Vision: The strongest applications clearly articulate a bold scientific question, a novel approach using AI, and a tangible plan for achieving social impact.

Submit Your Application: Tell us your story. Explain why your team is the one to solve this challenge and how this funding and support will be the catalyst you need.

Review Process: Our team, along with Google’s leading AI researchers and external partners like Renaissance Philanthropy and the Centre for Public Impact, will carefully review each proposal, looking for projects with the highest potential for breakthrough impact.

The deadline for submissions is April 17, 2026, at 11:59 PM PT. The clock is ticking.

The greatest challenges of our time demand the most advanced tools and the boldest thinkers. If you are ready to push the boundaries of what’s possible, to move science forward at digital speed, and to build a healthier, more resilient world, we want to hear from you.

The next great discovery is waiting. Start your journey today.
