A Prestigious Opportunity for Global Early-Career Researchers

In celebration of its 90th anniversary, the British Council has partnered with the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh to offer two fully funded 12-month postdoctoral fellowships for outstanding early-career researchers from ODA-recipient countries.This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research at one of the world’s most prestigious universities while collaborating with the British Council’s global network. Fellows will spend 10 transformative months at the University of Edinburgh, followed by 2 months of knowledge exchange in their home countries, amplifying the impact of their work.

Fellowships begin in January 2026.

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility Criteria:

✅ Open to postdoctoral researchers from ODA-recipient countries (full list below)

✅ Must hold a PhD awarded between 2018-2025 (exceptions for career breaks)

✅ No prior permanent university positions or previous IASH Fellowships
